What is SEO? (Search Engine optimization)
Google promotes pages it thinks are authority pages to the top of its rankings. It’s your job to create authority pages. In simple terms this involves writing content and building links. So in simple terms SEO involves writing pages that use keywords, words people use in searches, and securing links from other pages to show how important your page is compared to others. Links are votes and votes get you elected higher up the pages.
Google offer a service called Google Adwords or PPC (Pay Per Click). These are the listings that generally appear at the top or side when doing a search. Google will only charge you if someone clicks on the link – This a quick and simple way to start appearing high up on the Google search engine.
What is a Keyword?
The expressions “keyword”, “key phrase”, “search term” and “search query” all refer to the particular words that might be entered by a person into their search engine. A relatively small change in the keyword entered can sometimes lead to a completely different set of websites appearing.
Why is my new site not appearing in Google search?
If your site is new it can take many weeks or months before Google has indexed the site.
I want a site that allows me to make updates – what are my options?
This is called a CMS (content management system) site – The most common platform for this is WordPress – WordPress sits on a database so sites can be more interactive. But there are many other options that I can help with to make sure you make the right choice.
The other type of site is a static brochure site created in HTML & CSS and generally only I can make changes to the site.
What will you need from me to get started on my new site?
After our first meeting I will have a good idea of your requirements – It is then up to you to put together the wording and images for each of the pages. Depending on your business you may already have plenty of images. Will my new site look good on my phone or tablet?
Yes. The term is called ‘responsive’ and it means that the site layout will adapt to the media it is being viewed on.
